 (Continued)
6- You will be called to the procedure room, and you
will only undress from the waist down. The only part of this procedure which
is unpleasant, but not painful, is the Speculum. We can guarantee almost
everyone if they are able to tolerate the Speculum, they go through our
procedure with absolute ease. After the Speculum we use cotton soaked with Betadine
solution (please let us know if you are allergic to lodine so we can use other
agents) to reduce the chance of infection. Then you receive a local anesthesia
like Novocain.
If you are allergic to any kind
of local anesthesia, it is very important that you let us
know. Most fatalities associated with this procedure are because
of allergies to local anesthetics.
This injection is absolutely pain free because the area is
numb naturally and we also use special ingredients that eliminate
the injection pain. We leave you for 3-5 minutes for the local
anesthetic to take effect. Please relax, and stay calm.
7- When we return to perform your procedure you are completely numb. Due to
the effect of Cytotec your cervix is very soft, and easily allows passage of
the canula to the uterus without any effort and or dilation (stretching or widening
the cervix). The canula (like a straw) is connected to the vacuum aspirator
and the contents of the uterus will be emptied into a jar.
During
this process you may experience some cramps. Women who have never had a vaginal
delivery and/or never had previous cramps during their normal periods may feel
uncomfortable. Please remember these cramps are extremely normal and actually
beneficial .
The cramps prevent bleeding during and after the procedure.
We offer a single shot that will allow you to go through the procedure with
absolutely no PAIN, DISCOMFORT, CRAMPS, ANXIETY or STRESS. This shot
is a combination of three strong ingredients: Pain reliever, tranquilizer
and muscle relaxant. We strongly recommend this to most patients. However,
you will need someone to take you home after the procedure.
Please ask the front office about this extremely valuable
addition to your care
8- After the procedure, please continue to lie down until an assistant helps
you to get up. If you feel dizzy or light headed when you sit up, lie back immediately
. You could faint and fall, and cause yourself major injury. Please DO NOT
get up unless there is someone in the room to help you get dressed.
9- You will also receive a prescription for antibiotics after your procedure
. It is vitally important that you take these antibiotics as directed and complete
the course of treatment. Your other prescriptions, Methergine and over-the counter-the
counter pain relievers (Aleve, Advil, Motrin etc.) are to be taken as needed
to relieve heavy bleeding or pain.
10- Please read the instructions about your post abortion care. This will reduce
your anxiety because you will know what symptoms to expect and which symptoms
could be dangerous.
Thank You
