Only doctors in our private practice
will perform your procedure
When you arrive, we will complete your chart and check
your blood Rh factor, weight, and blood pressure. During this time, we encourage
you to read the ACOG pamphlet, "Medical Facts About Abortion" and
our before-abortion materials. Our staff will answer any questions.
You will then be called for a routine sonogram to verify
the duration of your pregnancy. You will be given 2-4 tables of Cytotec (Prostaglandin)
to soften and open the cervix (opening of the womb).
At this point your decision to have an abortion must be final because Cytotec
can cause fetal damage should you decide to continue with your pregnancy.
After about 30 minutes, we will call you to the procedure
room, where the doctor will administer local anesthesia. After a few minutes,
we will perform the Abortion using only vacuum aspiration and a plastic canula
(like a straw). We will not use any forceful dilation (stretching) or sharp
curettage (scraping). For pregnancies up to 12 weeks, the procedure takes less
than 30 seconds. You will experience mild cramps like those of a normal period,
which will subside in less than 10 minutes.
After a brief stay in the recovery room, you will be
called for a second sonogram to make sure the procedure has been completed satisfactorily.
You will also receive a prescription and other instructions.
If you wish to start birth control pills, we will provide
a free sample pack to be started after the procedure to ensure immediate protection.
